Looking for free self-learning online courses to better understand cybersecurity and generative AI?
Why not head to the Digital Ministry’s Rakyat Digital platform to explore, learn, and get yourself certified in the process?
The ministry’s secretary-general, Fabian Bigar, said the platform promotes digital literacy among Malaysians.
“It all started when we launched AI Untuk Rakyat in January 2024,” said Fabian.
“The prime minister set a KPI for us to ensure one million people followed and completed the course within a year.
“However, we achieved this target within six months,” he said during a recent interview on Apa Khabar Malaysia on Bernama TV.
Fabian said the popularity of AI Untuk Rakyat, a four-hour self-learning course, spurred the ministry to introduce new topics related to digitalisation that would interest the public.
“We saw it fit to introduce Cybersafe Untuk Rakyat and Generatif AI, which are basic awareness courses that only take 40 minutes each to complete,” said Fabian.
“Those who complete the courses will obtain a digital badge.”
He said the ministry will continue introducing new programmes every quarter.
“Among the other courses that will be introduced are cloud computing, data safety, and blockchain technology.”
Fabian said everyone – adults, children, and even senior citizens – can sign up for the free courses.
“You can sign up as long as you can read Bahasa Melayu and English. In the future, we plan to offer courses in Mandarin and Tamil,” he said.
He added that the ministry also plans to organise digital outreach programmes via its agencies to promote these courses to Malaysians, especially those in rural areas.
“Rakyat Digital is a digital platform for the rakyat, and they can learn for free. They may not become experts, but the idea is to ensure they gain basic knowledge to be digitally savvy,” he added.
