BANANA leaf rice lovers had a rude shock after a video showing workers from Raj Banana Leaf in Bangsar washing metal plates in a puddle of water went viral.
And Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz says the restaurant will be shut down tomorrow.
“Gila punya restaurant (Crazy restaurant). I will instruct my health and environment department officers to seal the premise tomorrow,” said Mhd Amin.
“It will remain closed until they adhere to all of our regulations.”
The video shows three workers squatting in the back alley as they use stagnant water on the road to wash the plates. Another worker was seen overseeing the disgusting act.
It remains unclear when the incident took place and how long such an act has been going on.
The video has generated hundreds of comments, with many expressing their disgust over the incident.
Raj Banana Leaf said the incident at its Bangsar outlet had never happened before and issued an apology on its Facebook page at 6.15pm.
They pinned the blame on their new staff and asked for another chance. They also offered a complimentary ‘Buka Puasa’ dinner at the Bangsar outlet on May 31 (7.30pm-9.30pm).
On that, Mhd Amin said: “Free food or not, we will shut them down.”
