Covid-19 threat but politicians the ones making us sick

They make announcements, tell the people what can or cannot be done.

But when it comes to politicians, there seems to be a different set of rules.

The country recorded a spike in Covid-19 cases with 287 cases recorded yesterday – the highest ever.

Here are some facts:

  • Three Election Commission staff on duty in Sabah tested positive for Covid19.
  • 700 policemen are under quarantine after assisting operations in the state elections.
  • Inter-district travel ban in Sabah started at midnight.

Well a picture tells a thousand words.

Below are photographs of politicians who have defied simple yet vital standard operating procedures (SOPs) and advice by the health authorities.

These photographs were published on their personal and parties’ social media accounts.

And this is only the tip of the iceberg …

WHERE’S THE 1M RULE?

Is this politician showing he has the numbers?

Perhaps some politicians believe 1m is the distance between their thumb and index finger.

Malu apa takde physical distancing!

HOW NOT TO WEAR A FACE MASK

These pictures remind one of what Forbes senior contributor Bruce Y. Lee, who is also a professor and digital health expert, wrote in his June 8 article:

“And having your mask just on your chin? That’s a bit like wearing a condom on your scrotum. It’s not protecting anything, except maybe people from seeing your neck or your goatee.”

FIST BUMPS ARE A REAL BUMMER

Yes, and this includes fist bumps. In fact, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had on Sept 8 advised the public to avoid physical contact, including fist bumps as a form of greeting.

We are sure you have seen many more pictures of politicians breaching the SOPs.

We “pray and hope” politicians will eventually adhere to the SOPs and keep our nation safe.
