Deadman raises spirits

Dear Diary,

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the WWE has the best scriptwriters on television. Its “actors” ain’t too bad either.

While its weekly shows have gone downhill a bit – too PG and now without fans – the wrestling company continuously churns out great documentaries (just don’t mention its movies).

Finally watched Chapter 1 of Undertaker: The Last Ride early this morning. It was a great inside look at Mark Calaway, the notoriously private man who has wrestled under the moniker The Undertaker (a.k.a. Deadman) for the last 30 years.

Filming began in 2017 ahead of what was supposed to be his final ‘fight’ but as we all know, there is no final anything in wrestling.

Highly recommended for all wrestling fans and athletes as it discusses when the best time to retire is.

The five-part series airs Mondays on the WWE network.

Meanwhile, with the English Premier League slated to restart in June, BeinSports replayed two Liverpool matches – against Watford and Leicester.

Having not watched any football for a long time, I watched both – who needs sleep, eh?

Here’s how Day 58 of the Movement Control Order (MCO) unfolded.

9am: DOUGHNUT – After 58 days of MCO, I probably can do this.

10am: COVER UP – Microdroplets generated by speech can remain suspended in the air in an enclosed space for more than 10 minutes, a study shows, underscoring their likely role in spreading Covid-19.

10.36: CONDITIONAL RELEASE – The Sessions Court grants a request by the prosecution to give a discharge not amounting to an acquittal to Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s step-son, Riza Aziz, who was charged with five counts of money laundering amounting to US$248 million (RM1.25 billion), allegedly misappropriated from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds. This is subject to Riza returning part of the money. If he fails to do so, the prosecution may reinstate the full charges and prosecute him to the full extent of the law.

11.03am: REMINDER – Need to buy a new can opener after cutting myself trying to open a can of baked beans. Should have stuck to Ayam brand as it has a ring/tab to pull open.

Noon: RAYA DELICACIES – Looking for cookies?

1.01pm: SAFE TO EATNo evidence chicken meat at a processing factory in Pedas, Negri Sembilan, is contaminated with the coronavirus although several workers tested positive for Covid-19.

2pm: WISE MOVE? – Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says flights to Sabah and Sarawak are allowed to be at full capacity as passengers will have to undergo compulsory quarantine as directed by the state governments.

This, despite 396 passengers who flew on two AirAsia Kuala Lumpur-Tawau flights being told to get tested for Covid-19 after six passengers tested positive.

Ismail Sabri also says for intra-peninsula destinations, planes can only fly with 66.4 per cent passenger capacity and the same applies for those flying from Sabah or Sarawak to Peninsular Malaysia and from overseas.

Spouses who wish to travel interstate to meet their families (once a week) must apply for a travel permit from the police.

Separately, he warns action will be taken against family members of Malaysians holding permanent resident status or long-term social visit pass who don’t pay for the accommodation costs when undergoing mandatory quarantine.

3.23pm: MINISTER UNDER INVESTIGATION – There are two police reports against Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al Bakri for flouting MCO. The reports were lodged after a 43-year-old man read Zulkifli’s Facebook postings on various activities he conducted after being appointed as a minister.

Separately, Dr Zulkifli says Friday prayers and select congregational prayers, including terawih and Hari Raya, will be allowed conditionally in the Federal Territories – Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan – starting tomorrow. Maximum of 30 people per mosque, with SOPs.

4.47pm: 40 NEW CASES – There are 40 new cases (31 of whom are non-Malaysians) which bring total to 6,819. Another 70 patients are discharged, meaning 5,351 people have been cured. However, there is one death, bringing fatalities to 112.

5pm: RAIL ADVENTURE – When all of this is over, how about going on the longest train ride in the world?

6pm: REST IN PEACE – Instead of a song, here’s a video of The Undertaker’s entrance at WrestleMania XX.
