Giving B40 kids a sporting chance in education

Giving back and helping out is a mantra of public relations agency Shekhinah PR.

As such, the company – well known for its involvement in sporting events – is working with preacher and philanthropist Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew, or better known as Ebit Lew, to deliver tablets for school children to use for their online lessons.

According to its chief executive officer, Christopher Raj, the company’s clients who also are part of the lifestyle and travel industries, have committed to the company’s cause in helping underprivileged children.

“I read about Ebit’s efforts to buy 43,000 devices for home study. I was extremely touched,” said Christopher, who made a personal donation of RM5,000 to Ebit.

“I suggested that if each Malaysian donates RM2, we could easily collect the RM30 million needed to buy the gadgets.

“That is why Shekhinah PR launched a donation drive to raise funds for Ebit’s foundation.”

He added the company had also partnered with sports portal Cakap Bola which contributed 100 tablets towards the project.

“To date, we have raised 17,370 of our RM20,000 target,” said Christopher.

“We have also received some donation in kind. Earlier this week, a kind soul left four tablets outside our office. We were surprised to see it the next morning.

“I’m touched by the generosity of Malaysians. They always band together when needed.”

Christopher is also working with other digital partners to collect second-hand laptops for those in need.

His computer expert will help refurbish and upgrade the laptops.

“We don’t want them to break down after a few weeks or be too slow. My IT guy will ensure the laptops are in good working condition before we distribute them.”

Separately, Christopher is working with other partners to buy stationery and activity books for some of the children.

“If they don’t have the devices, the least we can do is get them the books and stationery to do the school work.

“We need to give them the tools to do their school work.”
