Online swinger ring on X, Telegram, busted, three arrested

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Royal Malaysia Police have crippled an online swinger ring using the online platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Telegram to sell and distribute pornographic materials.

These activities, where married couples swap their partners in sexual trysts, were detected following complaints from the public, and based on MCMC’s surveillance.

MCMC, in a statement this afternoon, said a joint operation was carried out by the agency and the police in Kedah and Johor, recently. The swinger group in question had a large stockpile of pornographic material. The Commission, however, did not specify the date the operation was conducted, nor the total number of pornographic materials seized.

Three suspects, aged between 39 and 50, were believed to be the administrators of the group on the X platform. They would also sell pornographic materials to the public.

The suspects would upload short clips on X, and those who wanted to watch the full clips would have to purchase them for between RM100 and RM400. A link to Telegram would then be provided, where they would be able to watch the videos.

The statement, however, did not reveal if the online platforms were also being used as a means for partners to hook up.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Those found guilty will face a maximum fine of RM50,000 or be jailed for one year, or both.
