Total lockdown: Expect delays due to stringent police checks at roadblocks, says IGP

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police will conduct more stringent checks at roadblocks nationwide, when the total lockdown begins tomorrow.

“We will be conducting stringent checks to ensure that only those with proper documentation and appointment letters will be able to move around.

“We admit, there will be traffic jams. So, if you have no reasons to be out, stay at home. Let those in the essential services go out, to carry out their duties,” he said today.

Acryl added there will be more police, and mobile roadblocks nationwide. He reminded the public to keep travel to within a 10km radius from their homes and adhere to the regulations set by the National Security Council.

“We will no longer advise those who flout the SOPs (standard operating procedure). We’ve been in this situation for over a year, and the (MCO) mood is set,” he said.

When asked if police were tired, following the year-long monitoring and enforcement activities related to Covid-19, Acryl said: “We cannot afford to be tired. The virus does not know the meaning of ‘tired’. If we say we are tired, then we have lost.”
