‘Israel – A rogue state that we need to stand up to’

As is wont, the world is deaf and dumb, and turns a blind eye to Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people.

The recent and ongoing carnage perpetrated by Israel on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan against Muslims praying at the Al-Aqsa mosque is nothing more than a excuse to continually harass the Palestinians and provoke conflict.

It is an excuse to kill and maim these imprisoned people who have been forcibly evicted from their homes, their lands confiscated, only to be handed over to illegal Jewish settlers. The most recent flashpoint in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in East Jerusalem is another example of Israel’s barbarism and wanton disregard for international law.

The Jewish-controlled international media, is once again following the worn-out script; calling Israel’s actions an act of self-defence.

Israel’s atrocities are evident in its occupation of Palestinian lands. Gaza has been called the world’s largest open-air prison, its ‘inmates’ virtually slaves, denied of even the basic human necessities. A look at Israeli-controlled Gaza is to take a snapshot of what apartheid looks like.

That Israel gets away with such atrocities is because it has the tacit support of the United States, Britain and some members of the European Union. Not only do they defend these atrocities, but they also justify them at the United Nations. The refrain is all too familiar; Israel is the aggrieved party here, it is not the aggressor.

The US, especially, is a staunch ally of Israel’s. US president Joe Biden and vice-president Kamala Harris have given their unequivocal support to Israel’s so-called “defensive aggression”.

In fact, Harris was more explicit in declaring that the rogue Jewish state must be protected at all costs and be given military and other aid to sustain their so-called defensive aggression without any consideration to the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The ‘growing concerns over the plight of the Palestinians’, and the ‘need by both sides to de-escalate tensions in the region’ expressed by the US, Britain and their allies, are nothing more than just theatrics.

They have no intention of censuring Israel for the atrocities committed, and have used, and will continue to use, their veto powers to block any such move.

What is worse is that the Arab nations, some of which have diplomatic relations with Israel, like the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan, are once again, engaged in meaningless and useless rhetoric. These nations, and several others, will not act unilaterally against Israel, having sworn allegiance, long ago, to the almighty American dollar.

Likewise, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation seems impotent and clueless. But it is in good company as the United Nations has proven itself to be equally ineffective in conflict resolution, especially with regard to Israel and the crisis in the Middle East.

Israel knows it has the support of the Western permanent members of the UN to block any resolution to censure and condemn the atrocities committed by Tel Aviv.

Therefore, there is, a dire need for a sincere and concerted effort by Muslim nations, to not only stand in solidarity with their Palestinian brothers and sisters, but to use their wealth, and political and diplomatic influence to end this carnage once and for all, and to restore the rights of the Palestinians as a free people in their rightful homeland.
