Sultan Selangor: Enough of politics, people are tired

Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah reminded politicians in Selangor to stop politicking and start working to meet the needs of the people.

“The people are tired, I am tired of hearing of it. Wake up, honourable members; think about the future of our state and country, and the future of our children and grandchildren,” said Sultan Sharafuddin yesterday.

“Make Selangor great again, as it was during Selangor’s golden era, not too long ago,” he added.

Sultan Sharafuddin said this after presenting letters of appointment to the incoming menteri besar and his state executive council.

The Selangor Ruler, who underwent a minor surgery in London recently, said Selangor could not take pride in its rapid economic progress, attaining the status of a rich state, and recording the highest GDP in Malaysia, if the basic needs of the people were not well met.

“Are we aware that Selangor has recently fallen behind Penang, Johor, and even Sarawak, in terms of investments and the export value of goods?

“Perhaps we have not noticed this decline and have failed to address it,” he said, adding that action must be taken to prevent further damage to Selangor’s reputation as a major contributor to the Malaysian economy.”

As he turns 78 on Dec 24, Sultan Sharafuddin hopes to see Selangor take the lead position again, and be developed in every way, including in terms of physical and spiritual development, economic growth, as well as unity among all the people, living in peace, harmony, comfort, and lasting prosperity.

Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, 43, was sworn in as Selangor Menteri Besar for the second consecutive term. Ten state executive councillors were also sworn in at Istana Alam Shah in Klang.
