Absurd theatrics in Najib’s conviction

After the reality check brought about by the conviction and jailing of Datuk Seri Najib Razak for corruption and abuse of power, Umno, especially Najib’s supporters and those facing court cases for corruption, appear to have assumed a comatose state of denial.

Their thoughts and actions have veered from the stark reality into the realm of the absurd, where logical construction and argument is replaced by irrational and illogical speech.

It is a meaningless tirade in reacting to a situation which they refuse to accept because of their inability to accept the truth.

They thus create their own reality, which is an askance to the existential construct because they are mired in incongruence of mental aberrations that cause them to lose the rational sense of reality.

Dementia has set in.

The Aug 26 Umno mini-convention, called to lend emotional support to a convicted criminal and those facing similar corruption charges, reflect the irrationality and absurdity of Umno’s political culture that seem to condone corruption and lawlessness.

Umno appears to be suffering from an advanced pathological state of polluted and diseased mind, given to hallucinations and nightmares generated by its leadership.

Such a disease has become malignant among its members. There is no prospect of remission. The only way is to excise this cancerous entity.

The country has for so long been manipulated by the whims and fancies of the corrupted lot.

They have held sway using a system of patronage that rewards those who submit to their dictates – with position and monetary remunerations, and immunity from prosecution for wrongdoings.

As a result, all sorts of malfeasance, power abuse, and thievery were condoned, for political power supersedes the rule of law.

With each passing day, we see more and more corrupt leaders being charged in court or convicted, and yet, their supporters are ambivalent, unable to accept the truth, because of their gullibility.

What we are seeing is a skewed form of reality based on irrational emotions by certain quarters portraying Najib as being the victim of an unjust judicial system, by conveniently dismissing his legacy of looting the nation’s coffers through systemic corruption in governance.

It became truly absurd when his family equated Najib’s predicament to that of Nelson Mandela, and worse, to the plight of Prophet Yusoff as narrated in the Quran.

What could be more bizarre and contemptuous than this attempt to exonerate a convicted criminal, putting him on the same pedestal as the freedom fighter, and sanctimoniously mentioning him in the same breath as a Prophet.

It is not surprising because corruption appears to have become the core of some people’s DNA.

Now that they are in a bind, they appear to be resorting to using the people as their vehicle to regain power by promoting themselves as being altruistic and caring for the welfare of the people.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is facing corruption charges, had said that Umno wanted an early GE15 to establish a stable government that would be able to undertake development for the benefit of the people.

Is this really so?

It is also absurd for Najib’s supporters to clamour for a royal pardon and for him to file a petition for a pardon just after two weeks of being jailed.

To even consider such a pardon is a gross insult and demeaning to honest, hard-working, and law-abiding Malaysians who toil daily to put food on the table.

Even worse, it makes a mockery of our judicial system. And in this case, no one – imbued with moral and ethical principles – would even contemplate addressing such an absurd and irrational move.

This whole episode is absurd in that logic and reason have been polluted with phantasmagorical sentiments of irrationality and madness.

Thankfully, sanity still prevails with good men and women having the courage to uphold justice in the face of adversity, giving hope for a better future.
