Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will meet leaders from various political parties starting Wednesday, seen as a prelude to a possible meeting with the Malay Rulers regarding the future of Malaysia.
The respective leaders had been granted an audience to meet Al-Sultan Abdullah between June 9 and 11.
The meetings with the political leaders are believed to be a prelude to a possible discussion with the Malay Rulers on the state of affairs in the country which could include the setting up of a temporary government or a National Operations Council (NOC). The meeting could take place sometime next week.
Twentytwo13, had on June 4, ran a poser regarding the possibility of such a meeting among the Malay rulers. Certain quarters remained “restless” over the spike in Covid-19 cases, political instability, indefinite suspension of Parliament and economic uncertainty, and were looking at the royal institution for “guidance”.
Twentytwo13 was also made to understand that certain political leaders including Umno and Parti Amanah Negara leaders had consulted constitutional lawyers regarding the Federal Constitution and NOC.
The Council’s task would be to ensure the pandemic is contained, that Parliament reconvenes and that the administration in Putrajaya is given back to the people – via a general election.
An NOC was seen in 1969, following the May 13 race riots. Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman set up the NOC with his deputy, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, as director of operations.
