‘Alligator’ snapping for glory ahead of historic ONE: Century

Agilan Thani

Mixed martial arts sensation Agilan ‘The Alligator’ Thani is craving for another glorious outing in his second ONE Championship appearance of the year.

The welterweight makes his return to the circle at ONE: Century against Yushin ‘Thunder’ Okami on Sunday at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.

“It feels great to compete in full health. I’ve never felt like this before, and I’m eager to make my return in the shortest time,” said the 24-year-old Sentul native.

“My only wish is to perform at my best and get another win on my record. I’m working towards that now.”

Fight for Change 2019

ONE: Century is the single biggest world championship martial arts event in history with 28 world champions across various martial arts.

No organisation has ever thrown two full-scale world championship events on the same day with fights scheduled in the morning and evening at the same venue.

Agilan never imagined he would be part of this historic card.

However, the former ONE Welterweight world champion contender is used to being under the spotlight and feels this would be no different.

“I’m honoured ONE Championship has given this opportunity to me. It’s no doubt the biggest event in the history of ONE,” said the Monarchy MMA fighter.

“I would not be under any pressure to perform as I’ve even headlined cards previously. There will be millions watching this, and it’s going to be spectacular.”

Should he be worried, Agilan does not have to look far for inspiration.

At ONE: LEGENDARY QUEST in June, Agilan stunned Yoshihiro ‘Sexy Yama’ Akiyama after a three-round battle.

Okami should provide similar competition, but the ‘Alligator’ knows he can silence the ‘Thunder’ in Tokyo.

“I know what I’m capable of, and it’s not like I don’t have the skill set or the years behind me. I want to return with a good outcome.”
