KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has appointed infrastructure veteran Tan Sri Azmil Khalid as its new non-independent non-executive chairman, effective today.
He succeeds Nungsari Ahmad Radhi, who steps down after more than two years at the helm following his recent appointment to the board of Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, Khazanah Nasional Berhad.
The airport operator also announced that the Finance Ministry has extended the tenure of MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani for an additional two years, effective from Aug 1 2026, to ensure leadership stability.
Azmil brings more than 30 years of experience in corporate leadership and infrastructure development to the role. He previously served as president and chief executive of both The AlloyMtd Group and ANIH Berhad between 2011 and 2017. He currently chairs several corporate entities, including UEM Edgenta and Sapura Industrial Berhad.
The leadership transition follows a significant period of restructuring for the group. Under Nungsari’s stewardship, MAHB underwent a landmark privatisation exercise which concluded with its delisting from Bursa Malaysia in February 2025. The company now operates as a private entity under the Gateway Development Alliance (GDA) consortium.
During this post-privatisation phase, the group initiated major capital projects and terminal expansions at key regional hubs, including Penang and Kota Kinabalu international airports.
In a statement, MAHB said the board expressed its appreciation to Nungsari for balancing the group’s commercial objectives with its national responsibility to manage Malaysia’s aviation infrastructure.
The board added that the extension of Izani’s tenure as managing director was intended to maintain steady executive leadership as MAHB continues its strategic push to position Malaysia as the most connected country in the Asia-Pacific region.
