Badminton player Goh Jin Wei has emailed an appeal letter to the BA of Malaysia against her two-year suspension. She sent the letter this morning.
Goh received a letter regarding her suspension yesterday evening after BAM made public its decision to penalise Goh and another shuttler Lee Zii Jia during a press conference on Jan 21.
The decision came after the duo revealed they wanted to play as independent players.
“I submitted my appeal letter this morning,” said Goh.
“I really hope that the national body will revoke its decision to suspend me,” she added.
Unlike Lee, Goh obtained the blessings from the national body to leave last year after citing medical issues.
National news agency Bernama quoted BAM president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria on Sept 13, 2021, as saying: “Definitely very saddening for us (of her leaving), but unfortunately, because of medical reasons, we will respect the decision, moving forward, we are building a new team.”
The 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games gold medallist signed with KLRC Bhd earlier this month but said her health was still a priority.
The suspensions caused a massive public outcry, locally and abroad, and even caught the attention of politicians on both sides of the aisle. Some had even urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to interfere.
Several parties had rushed to meet the players following the episode. They included Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and his deputy Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.
Norza met Lee but had yet to see Goh.
BAM deputy president and the national body’s legal advisory committee chairman Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos met Lee and his lawyer yesterday and said they are working towards an amicable solution.
