With land in the Klang Valley being robbed in the name of development, a gold mine has been found in Bangi.
This Friday, Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming will launch the upgraded Section 15 Sports Complex with a brand new running track as its main feature.
The sports complex, managed by Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), joins a list of a handful of venues in the city that can host track and field events.
Other athletics facilities in the Klang Valley for public use include Setiawangsa Sports Complex and Kampung Pandan Sports Complex.
“As long as the gates are open, anyone can come to the Section 15 Sports Complex and enjoy the facilities for free,” said Ong, an avid runner.
“It’s something my office has been working on for some time and we made sure the facility meets specifications and there are spotlights. We can even host the Malaysia Games there!”
Ong acknowledged maintaining such a public facility will not be easy. He said the community will be roped in to take care of the sports complex and keep those who misuse the facilities at bay.
“I look at maintenance quite holistically. There will be big signs to say that one cannot cycle, use scooters or skate on the tracks.
“We must constantly remind people not to abuse the facilities. We have spoken to several residents’ associations and running groups in the area. If they see people misusing the tracks, they should advise them accordingly or raise the matter with MPKj.
“The community must do policing as well.”
“The place is competition-ready. You can even organise hurdles on the tracks. We made sure of that.
“There is space for shot put, hammer throw and even pole vaulting. We will be procuring some poles so that people can train,” he added.
