Dear Diary,
As we wait for the dreaded announcement tomorrow that the Movement Control Order (MCO) may be extended, please remember all the covidiots who think the rules don’t apply to them. I ran into some of them today.
Good news. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri are free of Covid-19 and out of quarantine.
Here’s how Day 23 of the MCO unfolded.
8.49am: TWO MORE MONTHS – The Academy of Medicine of Malaysia urges the government to extend MCO beyond Hari Raya.
10.47am: GOOD POINT – I wonder how many received this message.
11.35: FAREWELL – Linda Tripp, who secretly taped telephone conversations with Monica Lewinski documented the sex scandal that led to President Bill Clinton’s 1998 impeachment, has died. She was 70.
12.03pm: COVIDIOTS OF THE DAY – Saw couples and even families shopping at a hypermarket. Stores limit how many can go in at any one time. And isn’t the ruling one person per car? There are exceptions but only for special instances, so please be considerate.
12.33pm: FALSE HOPE – Grabbed one Butterscotch and one white Gardenia bread but was only allowed to buy one loaf. There should be signs at the shelves instead of being told at the payment counter. There is one at the sardine shelves: ‘two tins per customer’. Some customers were unhappy about giving up the bread.
1.12pm: CRAVING ABATED – Since still can’t find Ramly burger patties in the hypermarkets, made a stop at my favourite fast food joint – Burger King. There are some pretty good deals.
2pm: THE NEW NORMAL – Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob warns there will not be “business as usual” when(ever) MCO ends. He also announces 95 compound notices were issued by the police to MCO violators yesterday.
3.20pm: SOME HELP – Officers in the Top Management Group of the Public Service have agreed to contribute to the Covid-19 Fund through deduction of fixed entertainment allowance. Meanwhile, pawnshops have agreed to a three-month moratorium and the association of lenders agreed to exclude late charges.
4pm: TOO CUTE – A bakery in eastern France is selling masked Easter chocolate bunnies this year.

4.11pm: HEROES – This happened yesterday but only just got it.

5pm: DAILY UPDATE – 109 new cases take tally to 4,228. This includes 72 in the ICU. A total of 121 patients discharged takes recoveries to 1,608 or 39.03 per cent of cases. Sadly, there were two more deaths, making it 67. One was a 23-year-old Sarawakian woman who is the youngest fatality so far.
6pm: CARAVAN OF FOOLS – Since I’m still mourning John Prine, a perfect song for all the Covidiots.
