Carlsberg Malaysia has confirmed the contents of an Oct 14 letter regarding a price adjustment for “some of its products” due to continued escalation in costs.
The letter, signed by its sales director Gary Tan, said the new prices for beer and stout would take effect from Nov 15.
“We are mindful that taking a price hike under the current tough trading environment is challenging for all parties, hence we have worked to absorb and minimise the cost impact, and will make a price adjustment to some of our products only,” read the letter which has been making its rounds on WhatsApp.
In an appendix marked private and confidential, Carlsberg provided a list of prices to retailers in West Malaysia.
Carlsberg Malaysia, in confirming the letter to Twentytwo13, said: “Carlsberg Malaysia would like to acknowledge that the letter dated Oct 14 is an official communication from the company to our distribution and retail partners only.”
“With the Company’s adherence to relevant competition laws, the contents of the letter are meant to be treated with strict confidentiality between us as a manufacturer, and our trade partners. As such, we regret that the letter and information contained therein, have been circulated publicly in an irresponsible manner.”
The company added that the price adjustments were for its trade partners, and “we do not determine retail (consumer) prices, which are set independently by our customers”.

HEALTH MINISTRY TO ANTI-VAXXERS: LET’S MEET
The Health Ministry has suggested for those against vaccines to meet up and talk about the national Covid-19 vaccination programme.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali, in the Dewan Negara today, said the meeting would allow the ministry to provide anti-vaxxers with facts and information about the Covid-19 vaccine, based on authentic clinical studies.
He also warned people not to spread fake news regarding the vaccine, adding they would face action from the authorities.
Dr Noor Azmi believed those who opposed vaccinations did not have a clear understanding of the vaccine. He stressed that the vaccination was not a cure against the coronavirus but rather, to help boost the immune system to fight the virus.
As of yesterday, 93.8 per cent of the adult population in Malaysia (21,960,911 individuals) had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. The number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dipped to 5,434 cases today.
EC SETS NOMINATIONS FOR MELAKA ELECTIONS ON NOV 8, POLLS, NOV 20
Nominations for the Melaka elections will be held on Nov 8, while the 15th state election will be on Nov 20, Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh, announced today.
The state election must be held within 60 days of the dissolution of its legislative assembly (DUN), on Oct 5. The EC received an official notification from the Melaka DUN Speaker on the dissolution of the 14th Melaka DUN on Oct 4.
Early voting would take place on Nov 16.
Abdul Ghani added the election would observe Covid-19 prevention guidelines from the National Security Council, Health Ministry, and the police.
MEET NEEDS OF DISABLED TO GET PLANS APPROVED, DEVELOPERS TOLD
Development plan applications that failed to fulfil conditions in meeting the needs of the disabled, will not be approved.
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Mutalib said local authorities must also ensure that all the needs of the disabled were met, and that they should not approve the development plans until they met the conditions set under the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2008 (Act 685), and the Malaysian Construction Industry Standards.
TEENS AMONG 18 NABBED AT WILD DRUG PARTY
Police arrested 18 people, including university and secondary school students, during a raid on a wild, drug-fuelled party at a homestay in Alai, Melaka, yesterday.
Thirteen of them, including the three students, tested positive for methamphetamines and ganja. They were high on drugs when police raided the home, Melaka police said, in a statement today.
Transparent plastic packages containing pills (believed to be Ecstasy) and compressed dried leaves (believed to be ganja) were seized from two suspects. The two were remanded for four days, starting yesterday, to facilitate investigations.
