Manchester City sits atop the English Premier League after demolishing Leeds 7-0 in midweek, with Covid-19 wreaking havoc, as only five games will be played this weekend.
Among the five will be City hosting Newcastle on Sunday (10.15pm), in what should be a comfortable home win.
Newcastle, having only won once this season, lost 3-1 to Liverpool this morning (Malaysian time).
That victory was Liverpool’s 2,000th in English top-flight history, ahead of Arsenal (1,927), Everton (1,872), Manchester United (1,857) and Aston Villa (1,675).
It came from 4,227 matches (1,047 draws and 1,180 defeats), and ensured the team scored for a club-record 32nd consecutive game.
Mohamed Salah also equalled a Premier League record of scoring or assisting for the 15th consecutive match. The Egyptian’s goal against Newcastle was his 22nd in 23 games across all competitions this season.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp now has 150 victories in the Premier League since taking charge of the club in October 2015.
Liverpool next plays Tottenham on Monday (12.30am). The London side has not played since Dec 5, after several players tested positive for Covid-19.
Third-placed Chelsea could only draw 1-1 with Everton, meaning it has only collected eight points from the last 15. It faces Wolves away next.
In other matches, Leeds is up against a rejuvenated Arsenal that is now fourth, while Aston Villa will hope to continue its brilliant start under Steven Gerrard, when it hosts Burnley.
