Dear Diary,
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin turns 73 today. Happy Birthday.
Today, I made a quick grocery run and while trying to find parking, saw four people seated closely in a restaurant. They didn’t look like they were from one family.
In the supermarket, a guy greeted a friend by tapping him on the shoulder. They then proceeded to have a conversation, next to the produce section.
Others were crowding around the fresh meat section, less than 1m apart.
It’s Covidiots like these who could trigger another wave of infections. Please follow the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) rules, people.
On the way back, there was a police roadblock. This was only the second time I’ve seen one in my neighbourhood. A couple of cars and motorcycles were pulled over but I was waved through.
Separately, Sabah health authorities have advised the state’s residents to postpone their trips home after 10 people travelling from the peninsula tested positive for Covid-19.
Here’s how Day 59 of MCO unfolded.
7.30am: ALLAYING FEARS – The average close-contact period between Premier League players in training lasts just over three seconds, which is far lower than the threshold to contract Covid-19, says a landmark study that could prove crucial for the restart of the English Premier League.
9.17am: SAFETY AT SCHOOL – A Twentytwo13 reader is worried government funds to schools are only to purchase hand sanitiser, antibacterial handwash and thermometers. Face masks, face shields and protective equipment are not on the list. The parent is worried about the safety of his children when school reopens.
10.26am: USEFUL APP – Many Selangor outlets have started using the selangkah.my app to record customers’ details. I registered when I visited Mr DIY on Monday. That was the day I found out the Facebook app has a QR scanner! Now I scan the code instead of recording my details in a book.
11.59am: LEGAL POSER – Is the one-day Parliament sitting legal?
12.15pm: BRILLIANT AD – bar b is playing up the chaotic “Pengkhianat-Babi” uproar between Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong and his former DAP party colleague Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee during the Melaka assembly on Monday with this promo.
2pm: NO STATE CROSSINGS – Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob reiterates inter-state travel is still banned but married couples can visit each other if they work in different states once they get a police permit. Police have resumed roadblocks near major toll stations on highways nationwide.
Other announcements:
- The government will soon look at reopening other major places of worship for the five major religions practised in the country – Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism.
- A retraction for prayers at mosques – which began today – if a detailed report from the Minister in Charge of Islamic Affairs shows non-compliance of physical distancing rules.
- SOPs for the filming of drama, television series and movies are still being considered.
- Jalan Pudu which has been cordoned off is not under Enhanced Movement Control Order but under administrative control. Ismail Sabri said those living in the area are free to move about.
3pm: THE NEW NORMAL? – Got this from a couple of friends.
4.37pm: ZERO DEATHS – No new deaths today means fatalities remain at 112. There are 36 new cases which take the total to 6,855. Another 88 patients are discharged, meaning 5,439 people have beaten the virus.
5pm: STUBBORN KIND OF FELLOW – Here’s Marvin Gaye. A nice song but also describes the Covidiots who don’t follow the rules.
