KUALA LUMPUR: The 19th edition of Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2026 reinforced Malaysia’s role as a platform for defence diplomacy, technology exchange and industry collaboration in the Indo-Pacific.
Held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur from April 20-23, the event drew 48,347 participants and 1,456 companies from 63 countries.
DSA continues to serve as a meeting point for governments, industry players and defence agencies, reflecting Malaysia’s efforts to develop its defence sector and expand international engagement.
This year’s theme, “Empowering Capabilities and Resilience Through Technology,” highlighted the growing role of integrated systems and digital capabilities in defence.
Among the key areas featured were autonomous systems such as unmanned aerial, ground and underwater vehicles, alongside artificial intelligence-driven platforms and cybersecurity solutions.
The event also highlighted efforts to strengthen local industry participation. The Malaysian Defence Industry Council (MDIC) pavilion featured 368 local companies, reflecting a focus on developing domestic capabilities.
Programmes such as the Industry Collaboration Programme (ICP), valued at RM1.4 billion, aim to support technology transfer and build local expertise through partnerships with international companies.
Global defence firms, including Airbus, Turkish Aerospace Industries, Naval Group and BrahMos, were among those present, reflecting continued interest in the Malaysian market.
Developments in naval capability were also highlighted, including plans to integrate missile systems such as K-SAAM, ATMACA and VL MICA into Royal Malaysian Navy platforms.
DSA also provided a platform for bilateral and multilateral discussions. The Putrajaya Forum brought together more than 400 officials to discuss issues such as multi-domain operations and emerging security challenges.
International participation included country pavilions showcasing defence capabilities. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Pavilion hosted meetings and engagements with industry stakeholders during the event.
Companies such as Calidus Holding Group presented platforms including the B-250 light attack aircraft, Mezyad 001 vehicle and Lahab artillery systems.
Beyond the exhibition, the event contributed to economic activity by attracting visitors and supporting sectors such as hospitality, logistics and services.
The exhibition also reflects Malaysia’s continued engagement in regional security discussions and defence cooperation within the Indo-Pacific.
DSA remains a platform for collaboration, technology exchange and industry development as Malaysia continues to build its defence capabilities.
