Empire Strikes Back script a hit at Star Wars event

Did you know that a Malaysian owns several certified Hollywood movie scripts, including those from the Star Wars universe?

Eagle-eyed fans at last Sunday’s Star Wars Malaysian Fan Club’s ‘Rebel Rising’ event at Jaya One in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, were stunned to spot a copy of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ movie script in a display case, along with a certificate of authenticity.

Stars of the blockbuster – Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, David Prowse, and creator George Lucas autographed the script.

“I am the curator for a personal collector,” said Hollywood Treasures owner Wong Jin Zhen.

“The collector has a vast collection of Star Wars collectables, including exclusive NFTs (non-fungible tokens), Star Wars scripts, and Darth Vader helmets.

“He also has scripts from other movies, besides sporting collections like signed jerseys of legendary footballers.”

Wong said the collector lent several items to the organisers of last Sunday’s event as he wanted to share his passion for Star Wars.

Among those who gushed after seeing the movie script were Dylan Song, his wife Sara Sukor, and their two children.

“This is amazing. I never expected a Malaysian to own a Star Wars movie script,” said Song, 45.

“We are big Star Wars fans. We came to this event to have some fun but seeing this script is a real highlight.”

Song, a consultant, said he hoped the collector will hold an exhibition to showcase his Star Wars collection.

That idea, said Wong, was in the pipeline.

“That is something the collector and I have discussed. We have a studio with all sorts of movie and sporting collections, and it would be good to showcase them to other Malaysians,” said Wong.

“We may have an exhibition next year if everything goes smoothly.”

Wong said Hollywood Treasures held an exhibition of its football collectables in Phuket, Thailand, last August.

“Among the collection was a replica of the Jules Rimet trophy, made from mould pieces, which the collector bought from a private European collector,” said Wong.

“That is another exhibit we can have.”
