Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) members have elected the chair and members of two of its key committees for the 2023-2027 term.
Bettina Tucci Bartsiotas (main image), former United Nations assistant secretary-general and its former Interregional Crime and Research Institute director was elected chair of SIGA’s audit and compliance committee.
The other members of the committee are Richard Gordon, Financial Integrity Institute director, and Vitor Vale, managing partner of the accountancy firm Bizarro do Vale & Associados, in Portugal.
Bartsiotas said she was pleased to be collaborating with SIGA in her new capacity.
“The goals of the committee mirror SIGA’s Sports Integrity Goals; to ensure good governance, accountability, and scrutiny,” said Bartsiotas.
“I look forward to bringing my knowledge and expertise to this committee and working with Vitor Vale and Richard Gordon to continue to strengthen SIGA’s governance and internal controls.”
Fernando Veiga Gomes, who served in SIGA’s ethics committee as its deputy chair during the previous term, was elected chair.
The other members of Gomes’ committee include deputy chair Donna Goldsworthy, a partner at the London-based law firm Fieldfisher, and Tiago Gomes, a partner at the consultancy firm Ambiel, Belfiore, Gomes, Hanna Advogados in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with SIGA as president of the Sports Law Commission of SIGA’s Committed Supporter, the International Union of Lawyers (UIA), and as Chair of SIGA Europe’s General Assembly,” said Gomes.
“It is an honour to be appointed to such an important role. I will do my very best to honour this role and the responsibilities that come along with it. I am looking forward to working with all SIGA stakeholders to further advance sport integrity, worldwide.”
SIGA global chief executive officer Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros said the election of the members into the two committees further “strengthens our internal democracy”, reaffirming SIGA’s commitment to upholding such values.
He added that the two committees will play a fundamental role in ensuring that when it comes to its own governance, SIGA will continue to lead by example, operating with the utmost rigour and integrity.
