The term metaverse is a combination of the word ‘meta’, which means beyond, and the word ‘universe’.
Metaverse is a digital universe that anyone can create and experience virtually. Metaverse ranges from virtual currencies, digital arts, online gaming, virtual concerts, and 3D virtual spaces.
I have recently persuaded my parents to invest some of my Chinese New Year ang pow into cryptocurrency, instead of banking into my savings account. Prior to my parents agreeing, I had to do research, write a proposal, and educate my parents about investing in cryptocurrency.
I told my parents that in the metaverse, virtual money, also known as cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, bitcoin, and dogecoin, are used to purchase digital assets.
Some people buy cryptocurrency as a form of investment. In 2016, one Ethereum was approximately US$8. Today, one Ethereum has skyrocketed to a whopping US$3,000 apiece.
Cryptocurrencies can be used to purchase NFTs, also known as non-fungible tokens. Popular NFTs range from digital art collections, music, photos, trading cards, and domain names.
Besides doing research online on cryptocurrency, I watched YouTube videos on cryptocurrency investment, and spoke to some of my parents’ friends who have invested in cryptocurrency.
My mathematics tutor also taught me how to read graphs on cryptocurrency.
With this knowledge, I hope my initial cryptocurrency investment will multiply, and in a few years, I will be rich and own a few pieces of NFTs.
