The Football Association of Malaysia disciplinary committee has slapped Johor Darul Ta’zim with a RM15,000 fine following an incident where a fan alleged he was attacked during the FA Cup final at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, on July 22.
The decision was made at the 14th disciplinary committee meeting for the 2021-2025 term at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, Selangor. The committee said that the Johor club had gone against Article 68, which is read together with Article 69 of FAM’s Disciplinary Code for “failing to adhere to the obligation as a host, leading to a Kuala Lumpur City FC supporter being attacked by an unidentified individual, resulting in serious injuries, during the FA Cup final”.
The committee also issued a stern warning to the Southern Tigers that heavier penalties would be issued if a similar incident took place again. However, JDT is allowed to appeal the decision.
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, said he would provide updates, when asked by Twentytwo13 about the status of police investigations into the incident, during a press conference in Bukit Aman on Nov 8.
A 30-year-old fan claimed he was beaten up at the stadium during the match, which saw JDT defeating Kuala Lumpur City 2-0. Iskandar Puteri OCPD, Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin, in a statement following the incident, confirmed that a police report was lodged by the victim in Kuala Lumpur.
KL City FC, in a statement, said it “maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of crowd control aggression” and requested that the “relevant authorities make public their findings”.
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh told Twentytwo13 on July 27, that she was waiting for police to wrap up their investigations into the alleged assault of the football fan.
JDT was slapped with another RM15,000 fine and issued a stern warning by the national body’s disciplinary committee, for once again, failing to adhere to their obligations as a host, which led to its supporters provoking fans from the opposing team, and chasing and attacking the visitors before they could get on their bus during the Malaysia Premier Futsal League match between JDT and Selangor MAC at the Pasir Gudang City Stadium, on May 27.
JDT can, however, appeal against the decision.
Selangor FC, a player, and several officials were fined for their actions during the Malaysia Cup second leg quarterfinal between the team and Terengganu FC, on Sept 24.
The Red Giants was slapped with a total of RM23,000 in fines after a rock was thrown at the vehicle of a match official, resulting in the windscreen being smashed. A water bottle was also thrown from the stands at the match official, while a bottle was thrown by a Selangor FC official at a group of referees in the tunnel as they were heading to the dressing rooms. The committee decided that the club will not be allowed to appeal this decision.
Selangor player Yazan Mousa Mahmoud Alarab has been banned for life from all football activities in Malaysia after he assaulted and kicked the referee for handing him a red card during the match.
Selangor FC officials Syafiq Iqmal Fozi, Fadhli Zahari, Selangor FC community manager Amirul Aswad Subro, and Selangor FC asset manager Wan Ajmal Wan Abdullah, were handed RM10,000 fines each, and a 10-match ban for hurling vulgarities at the referees.
The club’s head marshall, M. Jayabalan, was handed a RM20,000 fine and suspended from all football activities in Malaysia for two years (Nov 20, 2023-Nov 19, 2025) for throwing a bottle at the referees as they headed to, and entered the dressing rooms, before shouting and hurling profanities at the men in black. In so doing, he had failed to uphold his responsibility as a marshall to provide security for the referees.
Jayabalan, however, is allowed to appeal the decision.
