Dear Diary,
It’s a sad day as John Prine couldn’t fight off the coronavirus. He may be gone but he will be long remembered. More bad news as the International Labour Organisation predicts layoffs and closures to wipe out 6.7 per cent of working hours worldwide in the second quarter.
Oh, and I was on The RSS with HD once again. We highlighted the heroes fighting Covid-19.
Here’s how Day 22 of the Movement Control Order (MCO) unfolded.
1.03am: GOOD WATCH – Local film ‘Daulat’ was good. Had some far-fetched/illogical scenes and stiff dialogue but overall not bad. Would have been better without the post-credit monologue.
7.22am: A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT – In two days, we will find out if the MCO will be extended. Whatever the outcome, life will not be the same again.
8.41am: WHEN I GET TO HEAVEN – About 2,000 US Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours. This includes one of my heroes, John Prine. Rest in peace, good sir. I’ll be playing your songs on repeat while enjoying my vodka and ginger tuak (since I’m out of ginger ale).
9.05am: INSPIRATIONAL – 16-year-old American TJ Kim is using his skills as a budding pilot to bring desperately needed medical equipment to rural hospitals.
10.27am: HOPE AND DESPAIR – Wuhan lifts its outbound travel ban and allows people to leave for the first time since it was locked down 76 days ago. France, however, is the fourth country to pass 10,000 coronavirus deaths.
11am: SALUTE TO FRONTLINERS – Recorded a second appearance on the RSS with HD Extended which premiered at 2pm.
1.48pm: DIGITAL EATS – Selangor introduces E-Bazar Ramadan Selangor Grab, that will be operational during the fasting month. The online bazaar will allow for online purchase through the Grab application from 15 locations that will serve as central kitchens.
2pm: FREE MASKS – Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob says government to issue four face masks to each household. Full details here.
2.15pm: SEAT FOR TWO – Twentytwo13 reader Christopher Choong, shared this picture. It’s good as where else can those waiting to collect their medicine or are there for a checkup, go to eat.
3.13pm: LIFESAVER – Former colleague Rizal Solomon says: “Thank God for online stores.” He just received his PS4 and a pool he set up at his balcony for his kids.
3.32pm: PAYING THE PRICE – Cops start issuing RM1,000 compounds for MCO violations.
4.28pm: NO YEAST, NO PROBLEM – Twentytwo13 managing editor Pearl Lee couldn’t find bread or yeast, so here’s a no-yeast bread recipe.
4.50: KARMA – Our friends at Talkedabout has this story: PAS leader who joked about coronavirus being afraid of snow, contracts Covid-19 after playing in the snow!
5pm: MIXED BAG – Health Director-General Datuk Seri Noor Hisham Abdullah says 156 new cases today bring the total to 4,119. The good news is 1,487 (including new patients) have been discharged. Sadly, two deaths take fatalities to 65.
6.30pm: SAMA-SAMA FIGHT C-19 – Funny man Douglas Lim’s take on Summer of 69. Prine, who was also known for his humorous lyrics, would have approved.
