KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territory Amateur Fencing Association (FTAFA) has filed a legal challenge against the Malaysian Fencing Federation (MFF) over its suspension in 2024 and expulsion in 2026.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court is scheduled to hear the case on Oct 26, 2026.
FTAFA president Badroel Rizwan Bahar confirmed the legal action.
MFF president Rusni Abu Hassan and federation secretary Yu Peng Kean were named as defendants in the suit.
FTAFA is seeking several remedies, including:
• A declaration that its 2024 suspension was invalid.
• A declaration that its 2026 expulsion was invalid.
• An order requiring MFF to reinstate FTAFA within seven days of the court order, with its full membership rights and benefits restored.
• An injunction preventing MFF and its office-bearers from enforcing the suspension and expulsion.
• General damages for losses arising from the suspension and/or expulsion, covering the period from May 13, 2024, until formal reinstatement.
• Exemplary and/or punitive damages, in an amount to be determined by the court.
“Finally, we get a chance to state our case. That is all we wanted from the start,” Badroel Rizwan told Twentytwo13.
“We had appealed to the Sports Commissioner’s Office, Sports Dispute Committee and Olympic Council of Malaysia, but to no avail.
“We were left with no choice but to take legal action as our suspension and expulsion from the national body were unjust decisions.”
FTAFA is challenging its two-year suspension, communicated in a letter dated May 13, 2024, and its expulsion, communicated in a letter dated May 11, 2026.
In its court filing, FTAFA alleges that it was not given prior notice, a show-cause letter or an opportunity to respond to the allegations before either decision was made.
The initial suspension in May 2024 followed a dispute over alleged compliance issues involving MFF’s annual general meeting, including the absence of an audit report and questions over unreported funds.
