Overgrown grass on the football pitch, a closed pool, and a beat-up running track greet visitors at the National Sports Council (NSC) Sports Complex in Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur.
However, this has not stopped the local community from frequenting the venue – one of the few in the city centre with multi-sport facilities.
A hit among residents of nearby neighbourhoods, several facilities at the complex are set to be repaired or replaced – music to the ears of many. This was confirmed by the NSC.
“The government has approved an allocation to upgrade the football field at the NSC Sports Complex in Setiawangsa via the 12th Malaysia Plan in 2024,” said an NSC spokesperson.
“The project will begin in June and will take six months to complete. The field will be closed from June 1 to Dec 1.”
It is understood that the swimming pool is temporarily closed following reports of soil movement. The NSC is awaiting the final report from the forensic investigation carried out by the Public Works Department before initiating repairs.
Talks to replace the running track surfaced last year, and there are also plans to upgrade it.
The sports complex, which opened its doors in 2014, also has a multipurpose hall that houses nine badminton courts.
