The funeral service of former Malaysian hockey captain Michael Yan Wai Pin will be held on Tuesday morning (10am), at the Church Of Visitation in Seremban.
Yan, who captained Malaysia at the 1973 SEAP Games, died yesterday from natural causes. He was 74.
The funeral service will be followed by final rites and burial at Sikamat Christian cemetery.
The cortege will leave his residence – 1552, Taman Bukit Kaya, Jalan Sg Ujong, 70200 Seremban – at 9am.
Yan, who also represented Malaysia at the 1970 Asian Games, was a Negeri Sembilan hockey legend, having played and coached his state.
He leaves behind wife Foong Seow Ken and three sons, Jerome, Benjamin and Raymond.
Jerome said the family will organise a wake today and tomorrow with prayers at 8pm.
Born on Sept 15, 1946, Yan was Negeri Sembilan Sportsman of the Year in 1975 and 1976.
He captained the state to the 1974 Tun Hussein Onn Cup and Tun Razak Cup in 1975 and 1977 – the last time Negeri Sembilan won that trophy.
Yan suffered a stroke on March 1, 2017. The hockey community, his friends and now defunct The Malay Mail newspaper organised a fundraiser in May the same year to help with his medical bills.
Unutilised funds were donated to charities and foundations to help stroke victims and children’s causes.
