Malaysian clean energy solutions provider Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari), via its wholly-owned subsidiary Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, and Bangkok-based electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure provider Evolt Technology Company Limited (Evolt), have activated their first jointly-installed EV charging points in Thailand.
Three Evolt-operated AC charging points have been rolled out at Exchange Tower – a commercial building located in Bangkok’s fast-developing Khlong Toei district.
The installation of the new charging points follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Gentari and Evolt earlier this year, which will see the two companies collaborating to explore new areas of co-development and co-investment in the expansion of EV charging infrastructure, as well as other potential green mobility and clean energy solutions across Southeast Asia.
“The collaboration with Evolt has been a thrilling endeavour, as we leverage their market leadership to propel Gentari’s maiden venture into regional infrastructure development in Southeast Asia,” said Shah Yang Razalli, Gentari’s chief green mobility officer.
“Our bigger goal is to bolster our green mobility network across key markets in the Asia Pacific, and this partnership plays a crucial role in achieving that objective, while driving the transition towards sustainable mobility in the region.”
Evolt chief operating officer Kanchalerm Earsakul said the launch represented a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to provide convenient, reliable, and sustainable charging options for electric vehicle owners.
“We believe that this station will play a vital role in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. We remain committed to leading the way in the transition to a cleaner and greener future of transportation,” Kanchalerm added.
Evolt’s network in Thailand comprises more than 10,000 installed AC and DC chargers across the nation’s 77 provinces.
Gentari, through its affiliated entities, has deployed over 150 charging points in Malaysia and more than 170 charging points in India, in addition to the three new charge points in Thailand.
The Malaysian company aims to capture a 10 per cent market share (around 25,000 charging points based on current estimates) across key markets in the Asia Pacific by 2030. In the mid-term, Gentari aims to install 9,000 public charging points by 2026, with an anchored presence in Malaysia and India.
