Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob urged employers in the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) areas to give their practical students a break.
He said he reached out to the Higher Education Ministry to resolve the matter but was told practical students who are undergoing industrial training are not under its purview.
“I was told it is up to the employers to decide. Only they have the authority to grant leave to the practical students,” he said in his daily press briefing today.
“I appeal to the employers to grant them leave so they don’t have to be in office.
“They are students and not fulltime employees. I hope this request is granted.”
Meanwhile, Ampangan, Seremban, Bandar Seremban, Labu, Rantau, Rasah, Setul, Pantai and Lenggeng in Negeri Sembilan will be under CMCO from Thursday.
Ismail Sabri said the order would be in force for two weeks following a rise in Covid-19 cases.
“Based on the advice of the Health Ministry, the National Security Council has agreed Seremban be under CMCO,” he said.
For those staying in Seremban but working in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor, Ismail Sabri said a permission letter was needed from the police and a working pass from employers to travel interstate.
Ismail Sabri, however, said while Seremban is under CMCO, the Enhanced MCO for several localities in Putra Point, Nilai would continue.

MAHA 2020 POSTPONED
The Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) 2020 exhibition from Nov 26-29 has been postponed.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries said this was to break the Covid-19 transmission chain as well as ensure the safety, health and well-being of the community.
ELECTORAL REFORM COMMITTEE WANTS REVIEW OF LAWS
Electoral Reform Committee chairman Tan Sri Ab Rashid Ab Rahman says there is an urgent need to review laws to allow elections to be postponed during crises or where national security is at stake.
“Legal provisions only allow for the Election Commision to manage elections, which must be held when there is a vacancy. It cannot postpone an election as there is no provision for the commission to do so,” he said.
This comes as calls were made to postpone the Batu Sapi by-election after the seat fell vacant following the death of Datuk Liew Vui Keong on Oct 2.
