Former diving world champion Cheong Jun Hoong qualified for the Tokyo Olympics earlier today.
Cheong, who has not competed in any tournaments since 2018 due to injuries, finished top in the preliminary round of the women’s individual 10m platform event at the Diving World Cup in Tokyo.
She accumulated 345.30 points to finish ahead of Russia’s Iuliia Timoshinina (336.70) and Mexican Gabriela Garcia (325.65).
The top 18 divers in the individual and the top four in synchronised disciplines qualify for the Olympics, scheduled from July 23 – Aug 8.
Four other divers – Pandelela Rinong Pamg, Leong Mun Yee, Nur Dhabitah Sabri and Wendy Ng Yan Yee – qualified for the Summer Games last year.
The quintet joins eight other Malaysians – cyclists Azizulhasni Awang and Mohd Shah Firdaus Sahrom, gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, sailors Khairulnizam Afendy, Nur Shazrin Latif, Nuraisyah Jamil and Juni Karimah Noor Jamali and archer Khairul Anuar Mohd – who have booked their tickets to the Games.
MACC STAYS AWAY FROM EX-IGP’S ALLEGATIONS
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki said the commission will not investigate claims of political interference in the Police Force Commission, adding that it was an “internal police problem” and it’s for the “police (to) settle it themselves”.
This is following the damning allegation by former Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador who claimed there was political interference in the commission and management of the police force.
Abdul Hamid also urged MACC to investigate politicians who were enticed to join other parties. Azam said there was no law against party hopping and that anyone who wanted to switch parties is “free to do so”.
GRAFT BUSTERS COMPLETE PRASARANA PROBE
Investigations into the alleged abuse of power in Prasarana Malaysia Bhd have been completed and the investigation paper was submitted to the Attorney-General (AG) two weeks ago.
While Azam did not name the individuals involved in the case, it was widely reported that Prasarana chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman had allegedly overreached in his duties by meddling in some of the company’s decisions.
CROWDS AT BANGLADESHI HIGH COMMISSION CONTINUE TO WORRY AMPANG FOLKS
There are mounting fears, yet again, of a Covid-19 outbreak at Pekan Ampang due to the lack of physical distancing at the Bangladesh High Commission Passport Service Centre.
Long queues were seen outside the high commission premise on Monday and earlier this morning with no physical distancing observed. Locals are fed up with the situation as their repeated pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
Such a scene is not new as Twentytwo13, had in July last year, highlighted the situation at the high commission following complaints by traders and residents.

FINAS CHAIRMAN TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
National Film Development Corporation (Finas) chairman Zakaria Abdul Hamid has tested positive for Covid-19.
In a statement issued by the body, Finas said Zakaria tested positive yesterday and was currently in quarantine. Finas said its operations will proceed as normal.
