Dear Diary,
Kotobian Tadau Tagazo Do Kaamatan or Happy Harvest Festival to our readers in Sabah.
Although it is a Kadazan-Dusun celebration, the whole of Sabah joins in.
I’ve not experienced it but I heard it can be just as rambunctious as Sarawak’s Gawai – something I’ve enjoyed first-hand (except this year, sob, sob) – which falls on June 1.
Meanwhile, it is as if the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is over as Subang Jaya was packed with people when I went to pay bills and get my monthly medication.
Separately, I got a response from Unifi to fix my router thanks to former colleague Sujartha Kumar. Unfortunately, I didn’t know the technician was coming today and was not at home. Now I have to reschedule it for Monday.
Here’s how Day 74 of MCO unfolded.
8.37am: OOPS! – I think I overate during MCO
9.20am: COP CHARGED – Derek Chauvin, the white police officer seen kneeling on the neck of George Floyd, has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
10.05am: TEAMWORK – World Health Organisation and 37 countries launch an alliance to share tools to battle Covid-19. It comes on a day when US President Donald Trump announces he is halting the decades-long US membership over its response to China’s handling of the pandemic.
11am: DON’T COME NEAR ME – Here’s a great app for those who want to practise physical/social distancing.
Sodar – use WebXR to help visualise social distancing guidelines in your environment. Using Sodar on supported mobile devices, create an augmented reality two meter radius ring around you. #hacktohelp https://t.co/Bu78QrEN9f pic.twitter.com/kufatNFDQk

12.07pm: DINING OUT – I didn’t plan to do so until later in the year but my wife and I finally eat out for the first time since March. Char siew and siew yuk rice never tasted so good!
1.49pm: CHOCOLATE GOODNESS – Haven’t been to FamilyMart for a long time. It is having a promotion for its Belgian Dark Chocolate Sofuto – 50 per cent off until tomorrow. If not for the first entry of today’s diary, I would have probably had an extra helping!
2pm: CHANGE OF HEART – Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says ban on interstate travel will be lifted on Monday for those who are working or have medical and emergency reasons. Spouses working in different states will be allowed to travel interstate to visit each other.
The first phase of the deportation of illegal immigrants will begin a week from today with the first group of 450 Indonesians to be sent back to Jakarta, Medan and Surabaya and another 445 on June 10.
The deportation process will also involve sea routes, with 1,294 Indonesians to leave for Medan on June 22. The second phase involving 2,623 illegal immigrants is scheduled for August.
Separately, 4,807 undocumented people at the Bukit Jalil (1,545), Semenyih (1,785), and KLIA (1,477) depots have been screened for Covid-19. From the total, 385 tested positive, as has an officer from the Semenyih depot.
Driving schools and the training and licensing process at the Road Transport Department will also resume operations.
3.05pm: GOOD LUCK – Taiwan approves Gilead Sciences’ remdesivir to treat Covid-19.
4pm: END OF AN ERA – Williams Racing puts the legendary team up for sale.
5.02pm: GOOD NEWS – The number of new cases drop to 30, taking the total to 7,762 as fatalities remain at 115. Another 95 patients are discharged today, meaning 6,330 people have been cured.
6.30pm: KOTOBIAN TADAU TAGAZO DO KAAMATAN – A number to celebrate the harvest festival.
