Have your say: Public invited to shape Malaysia’s online gaming rules

KUALA LUMPUR: Online games continue to shape how Malaysians think, unwind, play and connect, as questions continue to be raised over safety, user experience and user wellbeing.

In line with this, the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia has launched a nationwide public feedback exercise titled “Have your say: Let’s talk about online gaming”, in a bid to develop a gaming sub-code under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Content Code.

The proposed sub-code will set out practical, risk-based guidance tailored to the realities of online gaming, with particular attention to child safety, responsible design, monetisation practices and user wellbeing.

The survey invites candid perspectives on how online gaming is experienced in Malaysia today, including both its opportunities and its challenges. Broad participation will help ensure that any future framework reflects lived realities and market dynamics.

The concise survey is open to gamers, parents, educators, industry players and the general public. Questions touch on child online safety, digital wellbeing, consumer protection and the future of Malaysia’s gaming ecosystem.

The survey, which is open until April 1, forms part of an early input phase that will help shape the policy direction of the proposed Gaming Sub-Code. A formal public consultation will be conducted once a draft Sub-Code has been developed.
