Hollywood comes a-calling with movie props, memorabilia exhibition

Are you a movie buff?

If so, head on down to Evo Mall in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, today and tomorrow to get a sneak peek at one of the largest collections of privately owned Hollywood movie memorabilia, props, and merchandise in the country.

The exhibition is entitled ‘Pameran Memorabilia Filem Hollywood’ (teaser exhibition).

Co-owner of DF Collectibles, Asmaliza Che Abdul Ghani, said the items are owned by a VIP who wished to remain anonymous.

“My husband (Nazrin Abu Bakar) and I were approached by the VIP to organise the exhibition. For security reasons, the VIP wishes to remain anonymous,” said Asmaliza.

“What we will display in Evo Mall is a small part of the collection. That is why it is called a ‘teaser’ exhibition.

“The collector has many more items that we hope to exhibit very soon. Although it is a teaser, we promise it will be exciting.”

Fans can expect to see memorabilia from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Conan, and many others.

Asmaliza said the entry fee is only RM3 for adults, while children enter for free.

“We want to make it affordable as the owner wants many people to enjoy the collection,” said Asmaliza.

“This teaser exhibition will also include props, movie scripts and merchandise, such as T-shirts among others. The display will take up two lots in Evo Mall.

“We expect a good crowd as the Bandar Baru Bangi community has widely shared our poster.”

Asmaliza added DF Collectibles is scouting for suitable venues for the full exhibition, which could be held as early as the end of the year.

“We want to see the response to this exhibition before deciding on where and when to have the full one,” said Asmaliza, who did not discount the possibility of taking the exhibition nationwide.

“The aim is to have it in several venues. If you enjoy watching movies, come on down to Evo Mall this weekend.”

MORE THAN 30,000 DEATHS

Sunday was a sombre day as we reached 30,000 deaths from Covid-19.

To date, we have 30,240 deaths after a total of 303 fatalities in the past week. The only consolation is that it was the lowest accumulated tally for one week since May 15-21 (327).

We have had 38,592 new infections in the past week, pushing the total to 2,614,480.

On the bright side, 39,379 patients were cured of the coronavirus, making it 2,516,693 who have beaten Covid-19.

Worldwide, there are 260.83 million cases and 5.21 million fatalities.

THE SCOURGE OF MALAYSIAN FOOTBALL

Football is undoubtedly the most popular sport on the planet. Sadly, that also means it attracts some undesirables.

On Thursday, the deputy chairman of the FA of Malaysia’s integrity committee, Tan Sri Azam Baki, revealed allegations that bookies may have fixed two matches.

Fans still remember the 1994 match-fixing scandal when over 100 footballers were arrested. We hope there is no repeat. To the stakeholders, please pay your players and officials on time.

Separately, if you are a Selangor fan, why not pay a visit to this marvellous museum.
