Political uncertainty and the war against Covid-19 in the last 15 months have broken the hearts and spirits of Malaysians.
In her column in Malay news portal Getaran, Twentytwo13’s Pearl Lee said there’s also a big question mark in terms of the nation’s direction following the closing of Parliament, and the economic uncertainty.
“The increasing number of Covid-19 infections among children, the rising number of deaths, and delays in the supply of vaccines are also worrying the public,” she wrote.
“Many have lost their jobs. Business owners do not know how long they can go on, with operation costs remaining the same, despite their businesses being hit,” Pearl added.
Malaysia, she said, needs good news, right now.
A meeting among Malay rulers is set to take place on June 16.
The meeting that was called for, and to be chaired by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, will discuss initiatives to combat the spike in Covid-19 cases during the state of emergency.
Pearl said Al-Sultan Abdullah could also use the June 16 meeting to discuss the possibility of a National Operations Council that will run the government temporarily, or to cut short the state of emergency to enable Parliament to reconvene.
“Stability is what Malaysians are looking for. Will there be some good news for Malaysians next week?”
