Team BTI was formed specifically to participate in D2D Sports’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, the Foreign Domestic Workers (FDW) Futsal League.
It is a team made up of Indonesians, representing their beloved country. BTI stands for Bineka Tunggal Ika, which essentially means that although they might be different, they are united as Indonesians.
The team is a combination of three separate Indonesian teams – Perdana Muda, Tanker Girls, and Japung FC. The founders are Ella Waty @ Ell, Yani Karyani @ Refan, and Nur Hayati @ Nayla.
Nayla came to work in Singapore in October 2015. Like many others, her decision to shift to the island nation was to improve her family’s financial situation and to save up for her daughter’s education.
When she left Indonesia, her daughter was three. She is a single mum who hails from Sukabumi in West Java, and has been in Singapore for eight years.
Before moving to Singapore, she earned a living by helping her parents sell light snacks.
She has worked for the same family since coming to Singapore, and has not faced any major difficulties or challenges, although she did struggle with the language initially.
She picked up football as a sport in school at the age of 11. She occasionally watches her favourite club, Manchester United in action, and regards Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, as her favourite player.
She has been playing football in Singapore since 2017 and is the founder of Tanker Girls. She regards working in Singapore as a dream, as it is a safe and
beautiful country, and wishes to stay here forever.
Despite that, she misses Indonesia a lot, and longs for her daughter and parents.
