This is a mad, mad world; a world gone berserk caused by human mental frailty and weaknesses, and evil disposition due to lust, thirst for power, and greed of those whose hearts are devoid of conscience.
As a result, the world is in turmoil because of man’s distrust of his fellow man, and his propensity to arrogate unto himself the licence to cause destruction.
Man speaks with a forked tongue, saying one thing and doing another. He espouses freedom, human rights, and stresses on human dignity, liberty, and equality, but he incarcerates those who speak freely.
He creates dissent and sows hatred to perpetuate his power and exploit the poor and destitute to accumulate wealth.
This is a world where the inhabitants have lost their ethical and moral compass. Right and wrong are not based on ethical principles, but on expediency, might, and wealth. The weak is always wrong and wronged, while the powerful are never wrong. There are numerous instances in which the world has gone mad.
The war in Gaza is an example of insanity and mental aberrations. The Israelis and Americans have gone berserk with their frenzy killings of innocent men, women, children, and babies. Such atrocities have been graphically broadcast for the whole world to see. Yet the world turns a blind eye to the massacre. It is sheer madness that countries like the United States, Britain, Germany, and the European Union condone such carnage.
Unlike the Ukrainians, Palestinians do not have military and financial backing from these so-called democratic nations that promote themselves as the champions of freedom and human rights. Yet they deny the rights of the Palestinians to exist and deny the sovereignty of their homeland.
What is insane is the statement of US President Joe Biden about working seriously for a ceasefire, yet vetoing every such proposal at the United Nations Security Council. Also, while cautioning Israel to respect innocent citizens’ lives in Gaza, this deranged leader sends bombs to Israel to slaughter the Palestinians. This is sheer madness.
Israel has gone berserk, gone amok (mad) in killing innocent Palestinian citizens. It is a rogue state that spurns the findings of the International Court of Justice that ruled that it was committing plausible genocide. Israel has also ignored the International Court of Justice’s directives to avoid the continuing massacre of the Palestinians.
What is incomprehensible is that Israel has been granted immunity by the United States, Britain, France, Germany, and other European Union nations to continue with this carnage. It is insane how these Western powers not only condone, but encourage Israel to slaughter the Palestinian people, without any remorse or compunction.
Another expression of madness is the way justice is dispensed.
Institutions of law and order are never meant to dispense justice, but to be used instead, by the mighty and wealthy to manipulate justice. A classic example is the International Court of Justice deliberations and dispensation of justice that is usually lopsided favouring the rich and powerful.
We also have such an example in our own back yard – the recent pardon of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
It is mind-boggling that a person who had been sentenced for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd, was given a pardon.
This madness is intolerable when you consider the irreparable damage he inflicted on the country and its people.
From here on, this mad episode gets more bizarre and incomprehensible when he was also given a ‘50 per cent remission’ on his 12-year jail term, to six years. His fine of RM220 million was also reduced to RM50 million.
This insanity is present in most of the country’s race-based political parties because their leaders have hamartia, a tragic character flaw, having megalomaniacal tendencies demanding subservience, homage, and obeisance.
In Malaysia, there are leaders who let their insane streak of entitlement avail as they please, to serve their personal agenda.
Because of their recklessness, mismanagement, and abuse of their positions, they have caused irreparable damage to the country’s economy, as well as undermined the nation’s socio-ethnic fabric. All, just to remain in power.
The current prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who promised institutional and structural reforms of the economy, and to improve the lives and wellbeing of the people, seems at a loss as to how to realise his promises.
In fact, things have taken a turn for the worse, as he is preoccupied and consumed with holding on to power, to the extent of compromising judicial integrity, economic sensibility, ministerial capabilities, and accountability.
This whole episode is sheer madness. Such is the magnitude of the insanity of politicians and their political parties.
One party that stands out is Pas. Somehow, Pas is more concerned with legislating punitive Syariah laws.
Recently, the Federal Court ruled that 16 of the 18 provisions under the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment 2019 were contrary to the Federal Constitution, and therefore invalid.
Last week, the Kelantan State Assembly, which is dominated by Pas, passed a motion to re-enact the 16 provisions in the state’s Syariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019, that was nullified by the Federal Court on Feb 9.
The motion, presented by Pas Melor assemblyman Wan Rohimi Wan Daud on March 6, was agreed upon by all assemblymen in the state assembly, including two opposition lawmakers from Pakatan Harapan and Umno.
These politicians try to divert attention away from their incapability by focusing on the ritualistic aspects of Islam, instead of stressing on the substance of the religion.
This is sheer madness.
This madness has existed throughout human history, resulting in the carnage and massacre of human lives and the untold destruction of property.
Currently, ‘mad men’ are causing mayhem and atrocities around the world. This madness is an ongoing saga of human existence that manifests itself in the form of violence, subjugation to feed the ego, and self-aggrandisement of the rich and the powerful.
