Jar Taung realises dream of playing futsal through Singapore domestic workers’ league

Jar Taung came to Singapore a decade ago as a 24-year-old in search of a better future for her family in Myanmar.

After completing high school in her country, she sold mobile phones before making her move to seek employment abroad.

She came to the island republic as a domestic worker and has since worked for three employers. Currently, she works for two elderly ladies.

Jar calls Singapore her home as she feels it is safe, clean, and convenient to get a job. Given a choice, she would like to stay in Singapore forever.

Jar is among those taking part in the on-going Foreign Domestic Workers’ Futsal League, organised by D2D Sports.

She plays captain for the Golden Myanmar FC team. She wears the band around her sleeve as she is said to be the most patient and matured player in the team.

Jar had also designed her team’s logo and is responsible for ordering her team’s kit. In fact, the team has a new kit each month!

Jar has been fond of sports since she was in school, having mainly played football. She loves the fact that she now has the opportunity to play sports regularly.

The Golden Myanmar team was formed on July 10, 2022. Ironically, the team was formed by a player from a different team and country – Kim Hai Ching from the Indian team, Manipur FC.

The team was formed not only because of the players’ passion for sports, but to also realise their dream of being athletes. Many of them had played football for regional and state teams back home.

However, they couldn’t pursue a career in the sport as they were in search of a better livelihood.

The team players started off as complete strangers but their relationship blossomed along the way. Today, they are like family, often helping one another out.
