The power struggle in Kuala Lumpur football took a new twist when the ownership of the Kuala Lumpur FA (KLFA) Stadium in Bandar Tun Razak was brought up in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Khalid Abdul Samad (Pakatan Harapan-Shah Alam), who is KLFA president, said he had asked Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim as to why the stadium was “pawned” to a private company that had no links to KLFA or the football club Kuala Lumpur City FC.
“In his written reply, the minister claimed that Arcadin Services Sdn Bhd had a 55 per cent stake in Kuala Lumpur United FC (KLUFC),” said Khalid.
“This is a lie. I checked with the Companies Commission of Malaysia and have proof that KLFA owns 100 per cent of KLUFC. I can confirm this as I am the KLFA president.”
Kuala Lumpur United FC changed its name to Kuala Lumpur City FC just days before the 2021 Super League season started.
Khalid said he would report Shahidan to the Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee for providing a misleading and false written reply.
He also said he wants the case to be referred to the Public Accounts Committee and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
“It is obvious the company is trying to use KLUFC and KLFA for the benefit of its business,” said Khalid.
“I hope the deputy speaker can ask the minister why he gave an answer that is misleading, and a lie.”
Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Noor then asked Khalid to send in a written request.
