Kuala Lumpur City fans will have the chance to view the Malaysia Cup tomorrow as the football team will hold a street parade to celebrate winning the trophy after a 32-year drought.
Tomorrow is a public holiday in the city, although many have questioned the rationale for it.
Kuala Lumpur City chief executive officer Stanley Bernard said the event was a Federal Territories Ministry initiative, with Kuala Lumpur City Hall as the main organiser.
“They have sorted out the permits and the route. City Hall’s mounted unit will lead the way. The horses will be in front of the bus,” said the former international.
“The parade will start at Masjid Negara, Dataran Merdeka, and then head to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Campbell, Jalan Raja Laut, Kampung Baru, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Ampang, KLCC, and Bukit Bintang, before ending at Cheras Stadium.
At the Cheras Stadium, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah are expected to address the crowd.
There will also be performances by local artists.
“We will use the hop-on, hop-off bus for the parade that starts at 4pm. We expect everything to be over by 6.30pm.”
Bernard said the parade had to be tomorrow as several players would not be around at a later date.
“It has been a long season. The league started in January, and we had a long break due to Covid-19. It is already December,” said Bernard.
“Many of the players have not seen their families for a long time.
“Some of the players had to change their flight tickets due to the long season. It would not be fair to ask them to make more changes.
“It would be pointless to have a parade without our best players, so we agreed to organise one for tomorrow, since it is a public holiday.”
KL City defeated Johor Darul Ta’zim 2-0 in Tuesday’s final.
