Small steps can lead you to the highest peaks as Nuriylia Insyirah has discovered.
The 25-year-old finance executive has always had a passion for fashion and will have the biggest break of her budding career when she and Nadia Othman showcase Lily&Orkid’s latest designs at FashFab KL, a fashion trunk show at The Imaginarium, 1Utama Shopping Centre tomorrow night.
A trunk show is an event where vendors present merchandise directly to store personnel or customers. It allows customers to preview and/or purchase merchandise before it is made available to the public.
“I’m excited and scared at the same time,” says Nurilylia, better known as Lylia.
“I’ve always had a passion for fashion but never expected to launch my own label – Lily&Orkid – so soon.
“Nadia and I have been close since high school and have similar taste in fashion. We used to go shopping together and now we are developing our own line,” she said.
“Hard work has paid off. Hopefully, more aspiring designers can make the breakthrough in the future.”
Interestingly, Nurilylia got her start by selling pre-loved items on Carousell and eventually built her reputation as a top Carouseller with over 100 positive reviews from consumers.
“I did not expect sales to be so good.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own fashion label and so last year, I teamed up with Nadia to launch Lily&Orkid,” explains Nurilylia, whose favourite local designer is Alia Bastamam while she also adores Lebanese designer Elie Saab and Canadian-Turkish designer Erdem.
“We chose the name Lily&Orkid as they are well-known flowers. Lily is soft, sophisticated and romantic, while Orkid is strong, bold and unafraid.”
“At first glance, our designs look very feminine but also very bold, as our name suggests.
“I’m excited and nervous to have top models from Amber Chia Academy showing off our designs. It is certainly a new experience and I can’t wait.”
Among the items on show tomorrow will be a dress collection which will feature a more “flowery” design.
