Long haul for lawyers, clients as they wait for NRD to fix courts’ e-filing glitch

A representative of the courts’ e-filing system (EFS) admitted they do not know when the integrated system would be up and running.

As such, lawyers would have to wait a while longer to file probates and letters of administration via EFS.

A representative of the courts’ EFS help desk said they had informed the National Registration Department (NRD) of the problem and were still waiting for the department to rectify it.

“The system has been down since Oct 8. Last Monday, we got an update from the NRD, saying that they were still working on the problem,” she said.

“Everything is all right on our side. For lawyers to proceed with filing probates and letters of administration, they need to key in the 12 digits of the MyKad. But there has been a problem with the MyIdentity system.

“We have asked the NRD to expedite the matter as it is causing plenty of problems for lawyers and their clients.”

This website reached out to the NRD’s corporate communications department, but an officer claimed the problem was not at their end. Efforts to get an explanation proved futile.

When the EFS help desk rep was informed of what the NRD had said, she replied: “The NRD has four systems. Perhaps the person who answered the call did not know we use the MyIdentity system.

“I do not know how long we have to wait for the system to be back online. As long as a message pops up on our website, it means there is a problem.”

This is the latest issue plaguing the NRD. Last month, there was an alleged breach of its database, following claims that four million data, belonging to Malaysians born between 1979 and 1998, were being sold for RM35,000.

Here are Twentytwo13’s news highlights today.

USE OTHER OPTIONS TO PAY ASTRO BILL, SAYS ANNUAR MUSA

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said consumers have several other options to pay their Astro bill, instead of at the post offices.

He was responding to a question from Kasthuriraani Patto (PH-Batu Kawan), who wanted to know why an extra charge of 50 sen was imposed on Astro customers who paid their bills at post offices.

Annuar said customers could pay their bills via Astro Quick Pay, My Astro application, JomPAY platform, or by turning on the Astro 200 channel. Some e-wallets have options to pay the Astro bill.

He said a 50 sen service charge for Astro bill payment was implemented by collection agents, while Pos Malaysia Bhd imposed the same amount on those who paid at their counters from Sept 1.

ANTI-VAXX GROUPS YET TO ACCEPT INVITATION TO MEET HEALTH MINISTRY

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali said anti-vaccine groups have yet to accept the ministry’s invitation for a meeting to explain the importance of inoculation against Covid-19.

“The meeting with the anti-vaccine groups is to educate. I am concerned that they are receiving false information about the Covid-19 vaccines,” said Dr Noor Azmi.

“But nobody said yes. They do not want to meet.”

The proposed meeting would involve sharing verified clinical data from vaccine studies with the groups.

SECOND WIN FOR MALAYSIA IN AFC UNDER-23 QUALIFIERS

Azfar Fikri Azhar was the hero for Malaysia once again as the national team won its second match at the AFC Under-23 qualifiers.

The midfielder netted the only goal against Mongolia in the 40th minute to justify a last-minute call-up to replace the injured Ahmad Aysar Hadi Shapri.

Azfar also scored the only goal in Malaysia’s first match, against Laos, on Monday.

Malaysia now leads Group G with six points. The 11 group winners, and the four best runners-up, qualify for next year’s AFC U-23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan.
