MACC probes Ku Nan link to KL billboard deals

FORMER Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is being investigated over his alleged involvement in several billboard contracts in Kuala Lumpur.

It is learnt the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raid at Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut on Tuesday is related to this case.

Sources close to the investigations say they are piecing together evidence after a report was lodged alleging that an IT consultancy firm “enjoyed a special relationship and acted as an agent for Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan in the application of billboards in the city.”

The company is said to specialise in “computer hardware and software”. Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan is the charity arm of the FT Ministry.

Sources say Tengku Adnan is being investigated for allegedly awarding the contract to the IT company without tenders being called.

It is understood the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act for abuse of power.

Efforts to get Tengku Adnan to comment proved futile.

Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan had in recent weeks hogged the limelight for the wrong reasons over the sale of 64 lots of land, said to belong to City Hall, to the foundation over the past five years.

The raid on Tuesday was initially thought to be related to the land fiasco.

The foundation’s board of trustees includes Tengku Adnan, his then deputy minister Datuk J. Loga Bala Mohan, the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Adnan Md Ikshan and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Mhd Nordin Abd Aziz.

A Companies Commission of Malaysia search revealed the trustees were also among the directors of the foundation.
