Malaysian hospitality takes centre stage at Asean gala dinner

Leaders and representatives from Asean member countries and dialogue partners gathered at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre for the gala dinner in conjunction with the 47th Asean Summit and Related Meetings last night.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, welcomed the leaders and their spouses, who looked resplendent in outfits made from Tenun Pahang Diraja.

Themed around regional cultural diversity and shared identity, performances by renowned Malaysian singers Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, Datuk M. Nasir, and Dayang Nurfaizah kept guests entertained. Cultural performances displaying the unique identities of Asean member states were a testament to the rich culture and heritage of the region.

The evening also included a special celebration for Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s  80th birthday (below), with Anwar joining him on stage to cut his cake.
