The male population in Malaysia continues to outnumber females, with a record 106 males for every 100 females.
This was announced in the preliminary operational findings for the Population and Housing Census 2020, today.
The percentage of the male population stood at 51.5 per cent, compared to females, at 48.5 per cent.
The information released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia showed that as of Oct 31, 2020, the highest male-to-female sex ratio were recorded in Johor (114:100), Pahang (111:100) and Negeri Sembilan (108:100), while Perlis and Kelantan (99:100), and Putrajaya (95:100), recorded a higher female population.
Census Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the current population comprises 91.6 per cent citizens, and 8.4 per cent non-citizens.
“Findings from the 32.3 million Malaysians showed that 25.6 per cent are young (0-14 years old), 69.1 per cent are those in the working age (15-64 years), and 5.3 per cent are 65 years and older,” said Mohd Uzir.
“The oldest population recorded in Census 2020 is 120 for male, and 117 for female, according to the data recorded by the National Registration Department.”
Mohd Uzir added that three districts in Sarawak recorded the highest elderly population, namely Lubok Antu (21.1 per cent), Sri Aman (19.4 per cent) and Song (18.9 per cent), while districts with the highest number of young population were in Gombak, Selangor (37.2 per cent), Semporna, Sabah (35.4 per cent), and Kunak, also in Sabah (33.5 per cent).

NATIONAL VACCINE DEVELOPMENT ROADMAP LAUNCHED
The National Vaccine Development Roadmap (PPVN) and Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute (MGVI) were launched in Bangi, Selangor, today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the plan was in line with efforts to turn Malaysia into a hub for vaccine production, and boost confidence in vaccine use.
Ismail Sabri said through PPVN, Malaysia would be able to produce its own vaccines, which are effective and safe, in line with conditions set by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency.
He added PPVN would not only focus on Covid-19, but also develop vaccines for other diseases.
519 DEATHS NOT LINKED VACCINATION, SAYS HEALTH MINISTRY
The deaths of 519 Covid-19 vaccine recipients in the country were not related to vaccination.
Deputy Health Minister II, Aaron Ago Dagang, told the Dewan Rakyat, that following a thorough evaluation by the ministry, it was found that Covid-19 vaccines did not cause the deaths.
Aaron was responding to a question by Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof (PN-Alor Gajah) on the measures taken by the ministry to ensure vaccines were compatible with recipients.
LAWMAKERS TO GET BOOSTER SHOTS TOMORROW
Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker, Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, said Members of Parliament will start receiving their Covid-19 vaccine booster shots tomorrow.
The booster shots will be administered from 9.30am, at the banquet hall, in Parliament.
The nation recorded 4,626 Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total number of cases to 2,476,268.
SCHOOLS HAVE AUTHORITY TO CHECK TEACHERS’ VACCINATION STATUS
Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Radzi Jidin says school management have the authority to inspect Covid-19 vaccination certificates of teachers.
The move, he said, would ensure teachers adhered to a circular issued by the Public Service Department for all civil servants to be vaccinated.
IRB FILES SUIT AGAINST ADDY KANNA TO RECOVER RM1.4 MILLION IN UNPAID TAXES
The Inland Revenue Board had filed a suit against businessman Zaidi Kanapiah over RM1.4 million in unpaid tax arrears.
In its suit that was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Oct 1, the IRB is seeking to claim RM1,427,915.45 from the 37-year-old, better known as Addy Kana.
The statement of claim stated that Zaidi had failed to submit his personal income tax forms for the 2018 and 2019 assessment years.
