Fresh off a convincing Champions League Round of 16 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach, Premier League leader Manchester City now has its eyes firmly fixed on West Ham.
Tomorrow’s match (8.30pm) gives City the opportunity to go 13 points clear before second-placed Manchester United visits Chelsea on Monday (12.30am).
City is on an incredible 19-match winning run in all competitions and looks set to make it 20 against the fourth-placed West Ham.
Winning the title this season would make it three in four seasons and City’s seventh overall crown but its main goal this season is success on the European stage.
That was the reason Pep Guardiola was brought in five years ago but City has fallen at the quarterfinal stage each of the last three seasons. It lost in the round of 16 in the Spaniard’s first season.
However, the first leg away victory over Monchengladbach has all but assured it a place in the final eight. The second leg is on March 17 (4am), meaning City can, for now, focus fully on the Premier League.
United, which booked its place in the last 16 of the Europa League, faces a resurgent Chelsea. The Red Devils know they cannot afford any more slip-ups after only two wins in its last five matches – which included a 9-0 walloping of Southampton.
Chelsea is unbeaten since Thomas Tuchel took over as manager, drawing two and winning four. Its defence has also improved with only two goals conceded in those six games.
Third-placed Leicester, which was dumped from the Europa League by Slavia Praha, faces an inconsistent Arsenal (Sunday, 8pm).
