Another sports company has come on board to be part of Twentytwo13‘s inaugural ‘Sila Lari, Jangan Duduk’ Fun Run 2018.
Mesuma Sports Sdn Bhd has pledged over RM3,000 worth of merchandise for participants of the 5km run fun on Nov 4 at Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur.
Mesuma Sports manager Maya Heng said this is the first time the company is getting into the thick of the action after having supplied sports attire and equipment for various clients – ranging from large corporations to the national contingent at the Olympics, Asian Games and SEA Games.
“The name of the run is catchy and we’re happy to be part of it,” said Maya, 37.
“This event will create more awareness about living a healthy lifestyle.”
“All you need is just one person to organise something, or to participate in such an activity and many others will soon follow suit. It’s all good.”
Mesuma Sports is sponsoring the bags and certificates for the run which will see 800 runners taking part.
Established in 1983, Mesuma Sports was sited in Brickfields before moving to 8 Avenue in Petaling Jaya some five years ago.
Founded by George Heng and his wife Tan Yuet Ching, Mesuma was named after their three daughters – Melissa, Susan and Maya.
“I’ve grew up in a sports shop. Upon graduating, Mesuma Sports was my first job and most likely will be my only job,” Maya said in jest.
“My mom once told me that sports is an evergreen business. Even when the economy is bad, people still play sports.”
“Also sports is able to get people together for a good cause.”
Maya’s brother William, the youngest in the family, is also part of the business and he has set up a sister company under the Mesuma Sports entity – WillnAbove.
“We’re looking at producing a new line of clothing for an active lifestyle,” said William, 31.
“WillnAbove is set to push boundaries with new fabrics suitable for our weather. We will start selling our shirts online first but there are plans to open stores nationwide.”
For now, William is all eager to participate in the Nov 4 fun run.
While looking at his mother, William said: “The both of us should participate. And I’ll walk with you (his mother) throughout the route.”
