Mum’s MySejahtera woes finally over with a few simple clicks

I bet many have seen the car insurance advertisement, where the tagline is: ‘Click, Click, Settle’.

According to the advertisement, all you need to do to get a better, or cheaper car insurance, is to ‘click, click’ to compare prices, and then, you can ‘settle’ your purchase.

I tried it earlier this year when I was looking to buy car insurance, and it was indeed quite simple.

Similarly, to solve my mum’s problems with the MySejahtera mobile application, all I had to do was to ‘click, click, settle’, with the help of a volunteer at the Subang Jaya City Council Hall, in Puchong.

To recap, early last month, I wrote about how my mum’s MySejahtera mobile application had suddenly classified her as ‘Not Vaccinated’, despite receiving two doses.

We sent several emails to the help desk and asked volunteers at two ‘mega’ vaccination centres for assistance – when my sister and the home minister went for their booster shots. But to no avail.

So, I was a little sceptical about seeking help at a ‘tiny’ hall, but was pleasantly surprised at how helpful and efficient the volunteers were.

After my booster shot, I recounted to a volunteer at the final counter, my mum’s predicament.

The lady told me that I had to delete my mum as a vaccine dependent on my mobile phone, then update her Covid-19 status on her phone before updating her Covid-19 vaccination status.

I had my mum’s phone with me, and with a few clicks, viola! Her digital vaccination certificate appeared on her phone, meaning she was no longer ‘Not Vaccinated’.

I regretted not getting the volunteer’s name as I was so excited that my mum was finally ‘out of prison’. It means mum can now go out without having me tag along.

The problem is that business owners have their own rules about allowing patrons into their premises.

By right, all you need to do is to show your vaccination card and/or the PDF of the vaccination certificate, and sign a record book to enter.

But some businesses insist that you scan using the MySejahtera mobile application, or they will deny you entry. That is a problem when hers showed that she was “Not Vaccinated”.

Twentytwo13 columnist, Pipa Arbee, faced a similar problem. Like me, she sent several emails seeking assistance, as her mum was also classified as ‘Not Vaccinated’.

One email reply told her to delete her mum as a vaccine dependent. She did just that, but her mum’s digital certificate was still on her phone.

Only when she followed the steps I shared, did the certificate finally appear on her mum’s phone.

The best news of all, yesterday, my mum received a date for her booster shot – on Tuesday. It is amazing that something so simple took so long to solve.

GET YOUR BOOSTER JABS

The government has ramped up its delivery of booster jabs. Please go get one as soon as possible as Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has revealed that Covid-19-related deaths can be reduced by 90 per cent for those who had received booster shots.

So, please do not hesitate.

There were 33,945 new cases in the past seven days, a drop of 1,153 from the previous week. That means Malaysia’s total Covid-19 infections now stands at 2,683,523.

There were 293 deaths in the past week, making it 30,831. This was the second consecutive week that we had less than 300 deaths during a seven-day period.

On the recovery front, another 35,265 patients received the all-clear. That made it 2,591,819 people who had beaten the coronavirus.

Worldwide, there are 269.3  million cases and 5.31 million fatalities.

SALAH ON TARGET WITH VACCINE MESSAGE

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah had the perfect message for those opposed to the Covid-19 vaccine.

Speaking to Egyptian outlet MBC Masr TV, Salah said: “If I said that this (vaccination) is wrong, I’ll be like anyone on the street (telling me) to pass this ball here instead of there.”

NO STOPPING DATUK AWANG KAMARUDDIN ABDUL GHANI

Last October, former world No. 1 endurance rider Datuk Awang Kamaruddin Abdul Ghani voiced his displeasure at a suggestion to limit the issuance of motor vehicle licences to senior citizens.

Earlier this month, he posted on Facebook that he had driven nearly 10,000km in 2021. Not bad for a 76-year-old!

WHY THE DISCOUNT?

While we are on the subject of driving, the Royal Malaysia Police and the Road Transport Department are offering discounts of up to 80 per cent for summonses.

Twentytwo13 editor Haresh Deol said this would only encourage motorists to flout traffic rules and not pay up on time.

SOME IDEAS FOR CHRISTMAS PUDDINGS

With Christmas around the corner, here are some pudding recipes to try.

A JOHN PRINE CHRISTMAS

John Prine loved Christmas. The late singer-songwriter even put up a Christmas tree in his studio when he recorded his final album in July 2018!

Here he is with a slightly unusual number.

Until next week, stay safe.
