Most Liverpool fans are confident going into the big match against Manchester United tonight (11.30pm) but know they can’t write off the Red Devils.
Liverpool is top of the table with 24 points from eight matches while United has only nine points.
The form guide says it will be an easy Liverpool win but even in the 1970s and 1980s, when it was the dominant team, The Reds still found United hard to defeat.
In fact, United holds the edge with 88 victories to 76 while 66 matches have ended in draws.
Liverpool fans in the Klang Valley will head to Thirsty Bar tonight to cheer on their team but before the big event, the venue will host a Deepavali charity do in aid of the Siddharthan Children’s Home in Petaling Jaya, Selangor at noon.
Organised by Seetha Rajalingam, the event will see Official Liverpool Supporters’ Club KL Kopites, Carlsberg, Drinks Connexion and lawyer Sreekanth Pillai take the children for rides in a VW Beetle.
Conceptual Events & Advertising is the event partner while Twentytwo13 is the media partner. Proceeds from the charity do will be handed to the home.
Ironically, while Thirsty Bar is known as a Liverpool hangout, Seetha or Seets to her friends, is a United supporter.
As is her nature, she has sacrificed her happiness and willingly “conceded defeat”.
“MU will lose lah. That’s my prediction,” she said.
“I am being real. Moreover, (goalkeeper David) De Gea may not play. It will be a walk in the park for Liverpool – or I could be using reverse psychology!”
Bob Holmes, a former journalist who recently released his book ‘Shanks, Yanks and Jurgen’, is also backing Liverpool.
“By two goals, at least,” said the Nottingham Forest supporter, who will have a book signing at Thirsty Bar from 10pm today.
“Liverpool look solid all-round. It should have too much firepower for United although I do worry what would happen if anyone of its front three (Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane) suffers a long-term injury.”
Meanwhile, Astro is hosting a Manchester United-Liverpool viewing party at MyTown, Kuala Lumpur from 10pm.
Fans will have the chance to meet and greet former Liverpool player Vladimir Smicer and ex-Manchester United hitman Henrik Larsson at the event.
