Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng, has been a busy woman since winning a second term last month.
The 33-year-old lawyer, representing Pakatan Harapan, trounced Perikatan Nasional’s S. Ganapragasam and Muda’s Zayd Shaukat Ali in the Aug 12 state polls.
Since then, she has been making up for lost time by visiting as many constituents as possible.
Last Saturday, she was at Goodyear Court 10A in USJ 15, Subang Jaya, Selangor, to attend a Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebration.
“I would like to apologise, as I cannot stay long … but I accepted the invitation to this event, as I plan to meet as many people as possible,” said Ng.
“I miss going out and meeting the people in the past three years due to Covid-19. Events like this allow me to speak to the people.”
Ng addressed some of the issues raised by the residents’ association, including the stench from the Indah Water oxidation pond opposite the apartment.
“I have spoken to them and raised the concerns of the residents. They are trying out a new technology to reduce the odour, but this will take time,” said Ng, who later watched a children’s colouring contest, apart from giving away some lucky draw prizes.
Goodyear Court 10A Residents’ Association chairman N. Kumaran, said this was the first time they had organised a Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebration.
He said it was never too late to celebrate the nation, and they wanted to do something special for the residents.
“It is a way for us to foster unity among the residents,” said Kumaran.
“We were delighted when Michelle agreed to attend the event. We hope to make this an annual affair.”
He also pledged to work with the Subang Jaya City Council to widen the road leading to the apartment.
“We have already had talks with the authorities. We have taken photographs and marked the areas that need improvement,” he said.
Besides the children’s colouring contest, there was a traditional costume, and word puzzle competitions for adults and kids.
Kumaran also presented Ng with the book – ‘Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order’ by Ray Dalio.
LOOOONG WAIT
The home minister and I ran in our first Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) this morning in the 10km category.
You can support my charity, Reef Check Malaysia.
The KLSCM is over two days. Today was the 5km and 10km runs, and two Kids Dash races – 1km and 2km. The half, and full marathon events are tomorrow.
Over 40,000 participants will be at Dataran Merdeka throughout the weekend in the only race in Malaysia to earn the World Athletics’ Road Race Label – which recognises the event as ‘one of the leading road races around the world’.
On Thursday, tens of thousands of runners had gone to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to pick up their race kits.
Those who did self-collection, were in and out between 30 minutes to an hour. However, many who collected on behalf of their friends and families, had to wait for more than two hours.
The reason for the delay? Many had gone to the venue without an authorisation letter (hard, or soft copy), while others did not have the QR code, so the staff had to search for the names manually.
Unfortunately, the home minister and I got caught in the ‘jam’. It took us two hours and 46 minutes – longer than it would have taken us to finish a 10km run!
STUDENT ENSEMBLE RECITAL
If you are a music enthusiast or looking for a delightful shopping break, support a Student Ensemble Recital tomorrow at Pavillion Bukit Jalil’s Centre Court, Level 2, from 6pm-7pm.
Separately, Parkson Malaysia has started its first sustainability project, which includes workshops and prizes worth RM8,000.
Parkson is also on Level 2, but at Skylight Atrium. The project ends on Oct 31.

The company is also enhancing the packaging of its other products. This includes the new Sparkling bottle, the So Tinge label, and the label-free silica-rich natural mineral water, aimed at reducing plastic usage while minimising its environmental impact.
